There’s something a little bit annoying when you go to London and realise you’ve forgotten your camera. Even more annoying when you remember your camera but then realise the memory card is sat nicely in your Macbook SD slot…210 miles away.

Never mind! I can just use the camera on my phone right? 8 megapixels is better than my old Pentax compact and that was a beauty!

How foolish I am. Bag of crap phone won’t focus, compensate for light levels or even synchronise the shutter sound with when the image is captured…because hearing the fake sound of film being wound on is essential to photography, clearly.

I guess my point is, why equip a phone with an 8MP ability if the fundamentals are so floored you’ll get a terrible photo even if you used a tripod?

Phone issues aside, South Kensington was pretty decent. Once you remember you’re in Chelsea and that £3 pint is now £4.60 it was easy to see why every other car is a Porsche. Although sending your children to school in uniforms reminiscent of a day out with Mary Poppins might still take me a while to grasp.

The last accredited brief I completed for second year at York College was web design. I’ve been designing for the web since the days of Microsoft front page express, and for webpages to only have advanced as far as javascript & flash in those 10 years I’m pretty sure learning .html is about as useful as learning how to record radio to cassette tapes. Watching the app sensation take off over the last couple of years I am pretty sure the death of the webpage as it exists today, will come sooner rather than later.

How about a personal portfolio on an app? Seems to make sense - to me at least.

I had always wondered why a meter maid was called such. Turns out it was because when parking meters were introduced a businessman in Queensland, Australia hired attractive women to top up peoples parking meters with coins and leave a calling card under the windscreen wiper. It still happens today. Not sure it will catch on in York though, slipping in £2.60 minimum, in a bikini, in wet, cold and probably windy England.
